It’s not necessary that you memorize the entire wine list you are handed over in a restaurant to order one of them. Very few people out there actually know all kinds of wines and how they are named. While at most restaurants the steward will be able to assist you in selecting the right wine, some tips described here would still come handy if you are on a date and don’t want to get embarrassed.
First and the foremost consideration should be whether you like red or white wine. Even if you like a particular flavor, your partner might want to try something else. So it’s better that you ask them what would they prefer. If they leave the choice on you then choose something that is not too dry and sweet at the same time. Pinot Noir is lightly reddish in color and will give a taste of mixed brands. If you prefer white wine above all things then choosing a variation of Chardonnay will be a good idea. Even if you know what your choice would be considering the budget is again an important thing to remember while ordering wine in a restaurant. You can ask the steward an alternative to an extremely expensive, high class wine. The alternatives just taste as good and will save you some money for having a great meal afterwards. Many people like to learn more about the kind of wine they prefer. If possible, try to memorize a few names and keep them on the list when you are actually there ordering wine.
