Elegant Storage Option The Bakers Wine Rack Print E-mail
Tuesday, 20 June 2006

Many connoisseurs of wine have what is mundanely called a wine rack, a term that comes from the 'racking' found in many winery cellars used for storage.  Wine racks are made of many materials and come in all shapes and sizes.  One of the many styles available to households is the baker's wine rack.  This is an elegant way to hold several bottles of wine while also storing other necessities.

The baker's wine rack comes in many materials such as metal or wood, and the styles available range from modern to country, European to art deco.  Much like any interior design, wine racks can fit into any room of the house, although it is traditional for them to be in kitchens, dining rooms, and family rooms.  Small baker's wine racks stand only a few feet tall, hold eight to twelve bottles, and offer a convenient place to put tins of pasta, a telephone, and so on.  Larger baker's wine racks offer a storage of approximately twenty-four to eighty slots for bottles as well as storage space in the form of attractive shelving and creative cabinetry.  Most offer the wine storage toward the bottom of the unit because wine is kept best in a cool place, and cool air gravitates toward the floor.  This is more traditional than functional due to the availability of climate control in houses.

In some of the more elegant, while also functional, units, the baker's wine rack offers a large storage space for bottles below with a preparation space a few feet from the floor, and an added bonus of wine glass storage.  Because each wine and gathering calls for different glasses, it can often become a problem to find an appropriate way to store these without chipping, stem damage, or a ten-glass pileup in the cabinet.  In an elaborate unit, glasses become a part of room decoration instead of simply a necessity.

The preparation area is simply a shelf over the most traditional of wine storage spaces which can be used for serving, displaying, or another surface to decorate and tie the room together.  In many kitchens, finding ways to make the room attractive can be a struggle while also having enough storage space for everything so that there is still room to prepare meals.

There are few things that can tie your designing personality together with functionality and elegant storage the way a baker's wine rack can.  If you enjoy wine, this option is likely for you.
