If you have a large collection of wine, you might consider building a wine cellar to have it well accommodated and preserved. You are going to need a dark and cool place to store wine. A wine cellar will provide you with enough space and keep the wine cool at the same time. These days, a wine cellar with a dining table and 60 degrees of temperature is not uncommon. However, the time spent in a wine cellar of such a kind is limited, from 2 to 3 hours at the maximum, and you have to wear warm clothes to be in there for a small in-house party.
A few things you need to consider for building a wine cellar include maintaining a steady temperature, having the right insulation, and having proper humidity control. The recommended wood to be used for building cabinets is redwood, however, you can use any kind of wood like mahogany, or walnut if you're looking for a more stylish and modern cellar to show off to other people. Popular wine cellars have wood paneling, cabinets and racking units to hold a sizable collection of wine. Without proper humidity control the corks can dry out and the wine would start tasting bad long before time. To build a temperature control system, you need to contact an expert in this field. If you have a basement in your house, you can use it as a wine cellar, but make sure you only keep wine there and limit other activities to a minimum. Keeping wine in basement for two to three years will not affect its taste. In a wine cellar, however, the wine can be kept for many years and still taste the same.
