Port wine is a Portuguese wine coming from the Douro Valley (from Oporto to the Spanish border) in the northern part of Portugal. It is also known as Vinho do Porto (in Portugal), Oporto, Porto, and often simply Port (more in the US). There are several types of varieties of Port Wine : dry, semi-dry and white. Port wine started in the 17th century when there was a war between the English and the French. Then, the English could not drink French wine. Consequently, the English looked for a new location to get a good wine. They found the Duoro Valley to be a great location for a great and innovative wine.
